What is GROSS MOTOR DELAY

Gross motor delays affect skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, walking, running, and jumping. Causes may include low muscle tone, weakness, coordination challenges, or limited movement opportunities. Missing early milestones can affect balance, posture, coordination, and confidence later on.

When to Seek Help for Gross Motor Delay

Seek PT if your child:

  • Isn’t rolling by 6 months
  • Isn’t sitting by 7–8 months
  • Isn’t crawling by 9–10 months
  • Avoids or dislikes tummy time
  • Scoots instead of crawling
  • Isn’t walking by 15–18 months
  • Struggles to keep up with peers
  • Appears uncoordinated, clumsy, or low endurance
