What Is TORTICOLLIS & PLAGIOCEPHALY

Torticollis occurs when tight or imbalanced neck muscles cause a baby to prefer turning or tilting to one side. Plagiocephaly refers to a flat spot on the baby’s head, often forming because of this positional preference. Left untreated, torticollis can contribute to facial asymmetry, difficulty breastfeeding on one side, trouble tracking with both eyes, and delays or asymmetries in rolling, crawling, and walking.

When to Seek Help for Torticollis & Plagiocephaly

Seek an evaluation if your baby:

  • Prefers looking to one side

  • Consistently tilts their head

  • Struggles to breastfeed on one side

  • Has a flat spot on the head

  • Avoids or becomes upset with tummy time

  • Has difficulty turning their head both directions

  • Shows delays in rolling, sitting, or crawling
