What is SENSORY PROCESSING & EMOTIONAL REGULATION

Sensory processing challenges occur when the brain has difficulty interpreting input such as sound, touch, movement, or visual stimulation. This may cause children to be overwhelmed, avoidant, or constantly seeking movement. Regulation difficulties often occur alongside sensory needs.

When to Seek Help for Sensory Processing & Emotional Regulation

Seek therapy if your child:

  • Is overwhelmed by bright lights, loud sounds, or touch
  • Constantly seeks movement like jumping or crashing
  • Avoids grooming, certain textures, or clothing
  • Has difficulty calming down after excitement or frustration
  • Struggles with transitions or changes
  • Has emotional outbursts that seem sensory-related
  • Has difficulty attending during structured tasks
